🍭     go  -ing    ~하러 가다

 

• I go camping at least once a month. (최소 한 달에 한번 정도는 캠핑하러 간다.)

　

 

 

🍡  be busy  -ing     ~하느라 바쁘다

 

• He is busy producing a movie. (그는 영화를 제작하느라 바빠.)

 

 

🍢 feel like  -ing     ~하고 싶다

• I feel like having fried chicken. (후라이드 치킨을 먹고 싶어.)

 

 

 

🍿  keep / go on  -ing     계속 ~하다

       cf. keep A from ~ing A가 ~ing를 못하게 하다

• She kept crying day after day. (그녀는 매일매일 울기만 했어.)

 

 

 

 

 

🍗   can't help  -ing     ~하지 않을 수 없다

       = can't help but + 동사원형 

       = have no choice but to 부정사

• I can’t help falling in love with you. (널 사랑하지 않을 수 없어.)
• = I can't help but fall in love with you.
• = I have no choice but to fall in love with you. 

 

 

 

🍖  look forward to  -ing     ~하기를 고대하다

• I’m looking forward to seeing you soon. (곧 다시 만나길 바랄게.)

 

 

 

🧁  prevent/keep/stop/deter A from –ing     A가 –ing하는 것을 못하게 하다

• No one couldn’t prevent him from running into the fire to save the kid. (그가 아이를 구하기 위해 불길에 뛰어 들어가는 걸 아무도 말릴 수가 없었어.)

 

 

 

🥨  end up ~ing   결국 ~하게 되다

• He ended up getting involved in the fraud. (그는 결국 그 사기 사건에 연루되었어.)

 

 

 

🥯  spend+시간/돈/노력  -ing    -ing 하느라 시간을 보내다

• The writer spent the whole year finishing the novel. (그 작가는 소설을 완성하느라 꼬박 1년이란 시간을 쏟아부었어.)

 

 

 

🌮  have a good time/fun –ing     -ing 하면서 즐거운 시간을 보내다/재밌게 보내다

• Did you have fun taking a drawing class? (그리기 수업 들으며 재밌는 시간을 보냈니?)

 

 

 

🧀  have a hard time/difficulty/trouble –ing     -ing 하느라 어려움을 겪다

• You don’t have to have a hard time finding the best restaurant. (최고 좋은 식당을 찾으려는 수고를 들일 필요가 없어.)

 

 

 

🥟  be worth  -ing    ~할 가치가 있다

• The contest is worth taking part in. (그 대회는 참가할 가치가 있어.)

 

 

 

🍦  It is no use/good –ing    ~해도 소용이 없다

    = There is no use/point in -ing

     = What is the use/point of -ing?

     = It is of no use to V

     = It is useless to V

• It is no use crying over spilt milk. (이미 엎질러진 물이다./후회해봐야 소용없다에 해당하는 미국 속담)
• = There is no use/point in crying over spilt milk.
• = What is use/point of crying over spilt milk? (이미 엎질러진 물에 대고 울어봤지 무슨 소용이니?)
• = It is useless to cry over spilt milk.
• = It is of no use to cry over spilt milk.

 

 

 

🍕  when it comes to 동명사/명사    ~에 관한 한, ~에 대해서라면

• When it comes to being a creator, you have to have your own contents. (크리에이터가 된다는 것에 대해서라면 너는 너만의 콘텐츠를 갖고 있어야 해.)

 

 

 

🥪  there is no –ing    -ing 할 수가 없다/~하는 것은 불가능하다

      = it is impossible to V

• There is no saying when this pandemic will end. (이 전 세계적인 코로나 바이러스 감염병이 언제 끝날지 말하는 것은 불가능해.)
• = It is impossible to say when this pandemic will end.

 

 

 

🍔  It goes without saying that S+V     ~라고 말할 필요도 없다, ~는 자명한 사실이다

      = It is needless to say that S+V

      = It is obvious that S+V

• It goes without saying that health comes first. (건강이 제일 중요하다는 말은 할 필요도 없지.)
