📕 Tuesdays with Morrie

One of the good things about the pandemic is that it gives me the chance to enjoy recycling the old books I used to read back in my 20s or 30s.

Tuesdays with Morrie, just like a good old friend I had lost touch with, came over to me that way once again.  My love of novels was no exception even back then and I wasn't really into non-fiction stories but this book was such an unprecedented bestseller that almost every other house had it on the bookshelf. And I bought it, read it, and fell in love with it as much as I made it one of my favorite gift lists to anyone who loved books.

Mitch might have been living, even until now, as a sports columnist, not as a writer if he hadn't flicked through the TV channels late one night, when his old professor, Morrie, caught him.

Morrie and Mitch met as teacher and student every Tuesday and the last class was made into a book based on their conversations. It is not just a story but a joint thesis between a dying man with Lou Gehrig's disease and his old student listening to his life lessons such as love, family, marriage, money, emotions, regrets, and forgiveness as well as death itself. It's more of teachings and wisdom from a real teacher who is willing to share whatever he has learned and experienced all through his life.

You don't have to get yourself ready for a tear-jerker or a page-turner. It's more like a documentary that makes you look back on what you did, and give a second chance to yourself for the better. Morrie might be saying, There's nothing like' too late'. I'm sure you'll be able to say to your friends and family, I love you, and for what you did in the past, I forgive you.  Most of all, you could feel more comfortable and natural about death embracing it as a part of life.

🌲 Morrie가 앓았던 루게릭 병

  • ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, 근위축성(筋萎縮性) 측색(側索) 경화증) is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. ALS is often called Lou Gehrig's disease, after the baseball player who was diagnosed with it.
