It's the third book picked by my book club.

 

I dare say it's one of the funniest books I've ever read but I'm afraid it's not so easy to read as I expect it would. I'm not talking about the story but about so many colloquial expressions in it that I'm never used to.

 

It's a JOURNAL (not a DIARY😉) of an early teenager and there are quite a lot of schoolboy expressions ㅡ or slangs?! ㅡ and it took me so much time to look up all of them in the dictionary whenever they popped up episode by episode. I bet It will help improve your real, colloquial English as well.

 

I admit all the pictures helped me figure out exactly what's going on in each episode. Jeff Kinney, the creator of the main character, Greg Heffley, is a cartoonist and drew all the pictures himself. Thanks, Jeff!

 

I'm so jealous of his versatile talents. There used to be a time when I was dreaming of being a writer or an artist...(hmm, maybe not late yet! haha)

 

Funny stories are not my personal taste for reading, indeed.

Nevertheless, I've learned again that there are good books with as many funny books out there. And that there's no book on earth that isn't worth reading.  Does it seem to make sense? At least, it does to me. haha! 

 

All I read in the series is just volume 1. I hope I'll have the chance to read the rest one by one sooner or later, especially when I feel down or something for no reason. Definitely, it will work. 

 

 

 

 

전 세계적으로 2억 5천만 부나 팔렸을 만큼 인기가 대단한 이 작품은 만화가이자 작가인 Jeff Kinney가 쓴 대표작이다.

 

Jeff Kinney는학창 시절에 자신의 만화를 신문에 연재하는 만화가가 되길 바랬지만 결국 책을  쓰는 작가가 되었고 자신의 그림 그리는 재능을 더해 자신의 꿈에 날개를 단 셈이다. 

 

참으로 부러운 재능이 아닐 수 없다. 글도 잘 쓰고 그림도 잘 그리고...😆

 

이 책은 정말이지 구어체가 너무 많아서 잠시도 사전을 멀리할 수가 없다.  

 

주인공, Greg Helffley는 중학생이고, 아무래도 그중에는 중학생 나이 때의 아이들이 쓰는 나름의 속어들이 아닐까 싶기도 한데, 아직까지는 구어체와 속어의 구분이 쉽지만는 않은 나로서는 역부족이다. 🤣

 

그래도 이번 기회에 10대 말투를 어설프게나마 섭렵?!😜할 수 있는 기회가 되지 않았나 싶은 셀프 위로를 해본다. 

 

정말 웃기면서, 진짜 살아있는 영어다운 구어체 표현을 익히고 싶은 욕망이 있는 분들이라면 꼭 읽어보라 권장하고 싶은 책이다.
